Ian grew up in the Binya/Barellan district going to primary school in Barellan, High School in Griffith and University at the University of New South Wales where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree. He has always been keen to ensure the firm is at the cutting edge of legal issues. Ian is the principal of Cater & Blumer. He joined the firm in March 1981, becoming a partner in 1984. His work is very broad. He is an accredited specialist in Personal Injury Law. He undertakes all types of litigation including commercial litigation and general commercial work as well as wills, estates and intergenerational planning. He has seen the firm grow from a 3 solicitor firm in Griffith to a firm with solicitors having expertise in the many varied areas of law. The firm has full time offices in Griffith, Leeton and services Hillston and Coleambally.
